Miller Thomson Introduces New Initiative For Emerging Technology Companies
Last summer, Miller Thomson launched its new initiative called "MTech" in Waterloo, Ontario. Mtech will be offered to high growth companies in order to meet their complex needs in a cost effective way. Miller Thomson has come to appreciate the needs of emerging businesses through our guidance of many of our most successful home grown technology companies from start-up stage to the successful execution of their business plan.

Miller Thomson has crafted the MTech program after interviewing a significant number of emerging businesses in order to determine what it is that these businesses need from lawyers. We were told that emerging businesses still find it difficult to find lawyers who understand their business and that this has a negative effect on the value of the services they received; we also heard that cost of legal services was a big barrier. But above all, what they wanted is a law firm that was willing to "partner" for mutual benefit to address these issues in their relationship.

MTech is Miller Thomson's response to the concerns that have been raised by business and we have now unveiled an Emerging Business Package as part of the MTech program.

The Emerging Business Package includes services at fixed rates for every stage of a business's development. Most importantly, MTech offers a package specifically designed for those businesses that requires assistance with their intellectual property portfolio. MTech provides services for basic trade-mark, patent and copyright agreements.

For a business in its very early stages, MTech is able to supply incorporation documents and to provide corporate record services; for the founders of a corporation a standard shareholder agreement and various financing documents are available. And as the business continues to grow, MTech can assist the business with employment and leasing issues. A business can even have access to a lawyer in order to discuss any type of legal issue.

The MTech program puts these businesses in contact with Miller Thomson's best lawyers, all of whom have helped emerging businesses succeed. The focus of our package is giving high growth companies the tools that they need and managed access to strategic legal advice that adds value to their operations. In order to become a member of the MTech program, any new or existing client should contact Eamonn J. Flaherty, a Partner in the Markham office of Miller Thomson, at 905-415-6795 or at eflaherty@millerthomson.com. Please note that MTech is presently available to companies located in Ontario and will be expanding across Canada to other jurisdictions in the near future. "
